Introducing the Award-Winning Z2 from Zipit Wireless
CMM October 26th, 2007
Congratulations to Zipit Wireless for the Z2 receiving the “Best In Show” Award in the portable gear category at the Digital Life Expo in New York City. I became associated with Zipit during my internship this summer.
The Z2 is a wireless, portable, instant messaging (IM) device that allows people (targeted at teens and tweens) to IM for free anyplace they have access to a Wi-Fi network. The Z2 requires no per message fees and no monthly fees, and it allows those who want to IM to be able to do so without tying up the PC at home. It also allows people to IM even when they don’t have access to a PC — for example, anyone with a Z2 will be able to IM at any McDonalds in the United States beginning in November. Because the Z2 is a Wi-Fi device, as opposed to a cell phone that sends and receives text messages via the cellular network, any Z2 user will be able to communicate with anyone that has Internet access.
There is video of the Z2 here http://blogs.zdnet.com/Berlind/?p=796, in an article titled “The Z2: Evidence that the PC’s Deconstruction into Specialized Devices is Underway.” To purchase the product, go to www.zipitwireless.com.
